The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia is pleased to announce that Stephen Spector, MA, FCGA, is its President for 2009.

The proprietor of Spector and Associates in North Vancouver and a lecturer in accounting at Simon Fraser University, Spector was first elected to the CGA-BC Board in 1998. As President of the Association, his duties include representing members and students to the business community, educational institutions, all levels of government and the public.

“Working as the president is an honour, a privilege and a challenge,” said Spector. “It’s also a way of giving back to the profession and the organization that’s given me my career. And given the economic challenges the economy faces, it’s going to be an exciting time.”

His priority is “to ensure CGA remains the designation of choice. We’re operating in a very competitive environment. University students know that employers are looking for the best and the brightest, not just one particular designation, so we need to remain attractive and relevant to students.

“I also think that as representatives of the profession, it is important that CGAs remain a reassuring voice in a turbulent economy. There are a lot of people saying the sky is falling. Well, the sky isn’t falling, but we are in the midst of a heavy storm. CGAs are well positioned to help businesses and individuals ride out this storm and prepare their clients and employers for when it passes.”
